Classic Cars That Have Been Restored | 1 Antiques

While classic cars are still used for daily transportation, often as taxis, they have also become cherished heirlooms handed down from generation to generation within families, in some cases going all the way back to the 1930. Of the 60,000 autos in Cuba, about half are from the 1950, another 25 percent from the 1940 and a similar number from the 1930. about 150,000 of them existed at the time of the 1959 Cuban Revolution when the U.S. imposed a trade embargo on Cuba. most owners spend hours applying waxes and polishes and basking in the praise and admiration of passers by. Although there are more in the US overall, an American would have to go to Cuba to see a concentration of filling the streets like a snapshot of 1950 USA come to life. The Future for muscle automobile in Cuba Each day they get closer to extinction. and are extremely valuable, utmost care should be given to it. The muscle autos came after the Vintage era.

Some of the popular names of classic cars include the following. Cuban are increasingly aware of the value, particularly when visiting American become nostalgic about them. Timeless, this is how they are often described. some of the old autos have radios that actually still work while the older ones never do. It has paved way for the creation. 1916-1924 is the age for antique autos. Antique and Vintage automobiles are being collected now more than ever. Many collectors base their prices on a price guide. The hobby of collecting antique automobiles can be fun and enjoyable, and it can also incredibly rewarding, especially financially. and there are many debates on how Vintage automobiles should be defined. Buying and restoring is a popular hobby for many car enthusiasts but is rarely a straightforward task. If possible take someone with you who knows a lot about Vintage automobiles as they will know what to ask and what to look out for from rust to whether you will be able to find cheap car insurance for the vehicle.

People can carry on looking at classic cars, meeting fellow fanatics and maybe even finding insurance. quite simply, they have the highest theft rate in the country, making a very difficult and expensive to insure. first of all, it is much harder to value than a regular car. you will find a selection for sale at the show with all tastes and budgets being catered. Looking back and reading is just like reliving the days when these autos were still roaming the streets and roads. One of the biggest reasons are so hard to insure is that they are highly targeted by thieves. Anyone who owns a vintage vehicle or a collection of stylish one knows that a standard automobile insurance policy can not adequately cover the specific needs of someone who drives a vehicle. The reasons for this fact will be obvious to an agent who understands the needs, but for an agent who is not experienced with these kinds of customers it can be a difficult fact to swallow.

Classic cars that have been restored in most details or are well maintained and preserved appeal to any observer, not just the enthusiast. and their auto parts are a tradition of this country. from antique to junk or salvage automobiles, your donated car may earn you a nice tax deduction, and help make a big difference in the lives of others. and are surely attention grabbers since their original design is really unique compared to most modern autos. These models sure make heads turn and they come with interesting stories too. Owners take such great care of their prized collection that many of these classics are still functioning, with all their exquisiteness and uniqueness preserved to perfection. People from all over the world come to look at the fascinating collection in a unique setting. Regardless, no matter what your taste, whether it is for muscle cars, antiques or vintage models, if you know where to begin looking then with a little digging you can find what you need.

Spend the day admiring these classic cars, and if you were lucky enough to have won that jackpot, maybe you could even afford to buy one there are certainly numerous companies nowadays that will offer insurance, but all firms are not created equal. Whether you are going to find parts, find cheap insurance, make a purchase or merely admire the selection, the muscle motor show is a fun and enjoyable day out for all. Once people have restored their antique automotive they tend to either sell them on or keep them for personal use. The Corvette has certainly gained its place as like of the all time classic and has won habitual awards over the years including being twice named as the Motor Trend magazine Car [http://www.ebooks-mall.org/car/] of the Year. If you are thinking about buying or selling then an antique car show could well be the best place to do it. most trailers used for the safe and efficient transport are specially designed for smooth travel and protection from road and weather. Also, there are a number of insurance companies which specialize in insuring vehicles considered hot rods.

Powerful Hurricane Irene heads toward Bahamas, US (AP)

NAGUA, Dominican Republic ? A rapidly strengthening Hurricane Irene roared off the Dominican Republic's resort-dotted northern coast on Monday, whipping up high waves and torrential downpours on a track that could see it reach the U.S. Southeast as a major storm by the end of the week.

Irene grew into a Category 2 hurricane late Monday and the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said it could reach Category 3 as early as Tuesday and possibly become a monster Category 4 storm within 72 hours.

"We didn't anticipate it gaining this much strength this early," said center meteorologist Chris Landsea, adding that the ocean's warm temperatures and the current atmosphere is "very conducive" to energizing storms.

Forecasters said it could still be that strong when it slams into the United States, possibly landing in Florida, Georgia, or South Carolina. Irene is expected to rake the Turks and Caicos and the Bahamas on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Earlier, the storm slashed directly across Puerto Rico, tearing up trees and knocking out power to more than a million people, then headed out to sea north of the Dominican Republic, where the powerful storm's outer bands were buffeting the north coast with dangerous sea surge and downpours.

Late Monday, the storm's downpours forced more than 1,000 Dominicans to evacuate their homes, with some families in low-lying areas fleeing to churches and public buildings. Others hunkered down inside their homes as the winds howled outside and heavy waves pounded the piers and washed onto coastal boulevards.

"We are going to see if the zinc roof resists" the storm, Fidelina Magdaleno, 60, said in her house in Nagua while a chicken dinner was prepared inside without electricity.

Residents earlier had jammed supermarkets and gas stations to get supplies for the storm. Schools were closed and emergency services were placed on alert. At least 33 flights were canceled at Santo Domingo's international airport.

The first hurricane of the Atlantic season was a large system that could cause dangerous mudslides and floods in Dominican Republic, the hurricane center said. It was not expected to make a direct hit on neighboring Haiti, though that country could still see heavy rain from the storm.

Dominican officials said the government had emergency food available for 1.5 million people if needed and the country's military and public safety brigades were on alert.

"We have taken all precautions," presidential spokesman Rafael Nunez said.

Irene is forecast to grow into a Category 3 hurricane late Tuesday as it moves over the warm waters of the Turks and Caicos Islands and the southeastern Bahamas, and could maintain that strength as it nears the U.S. coast.

Florida residents were urged to ensure they had batteries, drinking water, food and other supplies.

"We must prepare for the worst and hope for the best," said Joe Martinez, chairman of the Miami-Dade County Commission.

Officials in Charleston, South Carolina, also warned residents to monitor Irene closely. It has been six years since a hurricane hit the South Carolina coast, said Joe Farmer of the state Emergency Management Division.

Police and civil protection officials in the Dominican Republic made their way along the beaches of the country's northern coast to warn people away from the surging sea. Resorts pulled up the umbrellas and lounge chairs as the storm made its way toward the country. At the Wyndham Tangerine, a hotel in the resort area of Sosua and Cabarete, the staff converted a conference room into a temporary storm refuge for 300 people, said deputy general manager Karen Gonzalez.

Jose Manuel Mendez, director of the country's Emergency Operations Center, said that only about 135 people were in public shelters, but that hundreds of others were staying with friends and family to avoid the storm, which was expected to drop as much as 14 inches (35 centimeters) at higher elevations.

The 100 tourists who booked an ocean-view room at a Puerto Plata resort were moved to another building on Monday for their safety, said Medardo Carrera, manager for VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort, and the hotel ordered its 450 guests to stay inside their rooms Monday night.

At the nearby Casa Colonial Beach & Spa, several tourists packed their bags and fled ahead of the storm, hoping to catch one of the last flights for Miami, said concierge Zadaliy Placido.

The hurricane earlier cut power to more than a million people in Puerto Rico. There were no reports of deaths or major injuries, but Gov. Luis Fortuno declared a state of emergency and urged people to stay indoors to avoid downed power lines, flooded streets and other hazards.

During the storm's march through the region, Academy Award-winning actress Kate Winslet and others escaped uninjured when a blaze gutted Richard Branson's home on his private isle in the British Virgin Islands.

According to Branson, about 20 people, including Winslet and her young children, were staying in his eight-bedroom Great House on Necker Island when the fire broke out around 4 a.m. amid the storm's lightning and high winds.

By late Monday night, Irene was centered about 100 miles (155 kms) east of Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic with maximum sustained winds of 100 mph (155 kph). Hurricane specialist John Cangialosi said it could become a Category 4 storm within 72 hours.

In the overseas U.K. territory of the Turks and Caicos Islands, located in the Atlantic between the Bahamas and Haiti, there was a steady stream of customers buying plywood and nails at hardware stores, while others readied storm shutters and emergency kits at home.

On the island of Grand Turk, where Hurricane Ike damaged roughly 95 percent of homes in September 2008, Peter White was taking no chances as the sparsely populated territory was slowly covered by iron-gray skies on Monday afternoon.

"We've loaded up on water and rations and our shutters are ready to go up. Bad memories of Ike are a big reason why we get so prepared now," White said from the Breezy Brea area along the eastern coast of Grand Turk.

In the Bahamian capital of Nassau, Henry Vera, of Long Island, New York, said the approaching hurricane will not cause him to cut his vacation short in Cable Beach, where he and his girlfriend are booked at a hotel until Sunday.

"I've never been in a hurricane before so I have no idea what to expect," the 29-year-old Mineola resident said. "But I'm not going to leave early, I still have a week off work and I'm still on vacation."

But Marcia Perry, a 36-year-old marketing executive from Hershey, Pennsylvania, who traveled to Nassau's Atlantis Resort with her daughter and her friends said she will go home early if the storm appears to be a major threat.

"We don't need to pay a lot of money to be worried and scared, so we will wait until tomorrow to make a decision," she said on Monday.

In Puerto Rico, 600 crews spread out across the island to repair toppled light poles, and the majority of customers were expected to have power by late Monday, power company spokesman Carlos Monroig said. Schools, most government offices and many businesses remained closed. Flights resumed at the international airport in San Juan by midmorning.

The storm entered through the southeast coastal town of Humacao, but emergency management regional director Orlando Diaz said the damage seemed to be less than he feared.

"We thought things were going to be a bit more tragic," he said. "I was surprised that we didn't see the amount of rain I expected."

Kate Winslet escapes fire at Branson's island home (AP)

LONDON ? Guests including Academy Award-winning actress Kate Winslet escaped uninjured when fire destroyed Richard Branson's Caribbean home during a tropical storm Monday, said the British businessman.

The Virgin Group boss said about 20 people, including Winslet and her children, were staying in the eight-bedroom Great House on Necker, his private isle in the British Virgin Islands.

Branson said he was staying in another property around 100 yards (meters) away with his wife, Joan and son Sam, 25.

He said the fire broke out around 4 a.m. during a tropical storm with lightning and high winds, and Sam managed to help evacuate Winslet and other guests from the house.

Tropical Storm Irene walloped the Virgin islands and headed towards Puerto Rico late Sunday and early Monday, strengthening into a hurricane Monday with winds of about 80mph (130 kph), according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center.

Branson said the guests, including his 90-year-old mother and his daughter Holly, 29, all managed to get out safely.

"Kate Winslet, her boyfriend and her family were there and Holly and some of her friends were also staying," Branson said. "My mother was there and they managed to get her out and she is fine."

Winslet's spokeswoman, Sara Keene, confirmed the actress was unharmed.

Branson said the house was "completely destroyed" and the fire was not entirely out Monday.

"My office was based in the house and I have lost thousands of photographs which is very sad," Branson said.

He said he planned to rebuild the house "as soon as we can."

"We'll all stay here for the time being," he said. "There's a lot of damage and we won't be able to stick it back together again right away."

Virgin said the cause of the fire was still being investigated but lightning was the likely culprit.

Branson, 60, bought the island in the early 1980s and began building the Great House in 1982. He also has developed an exclusive eco-resort on the island showcasing renewable energy technology.

Winslet, 35, shot to international stardom with her appearance opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in James Cameron's "Titanic," and sealed her reputation with a best actress Academy Award in 2009 for "The Reader."

She has two children, 10-year-old Mia and Joe, 7, from marriages to directors Jim Threapleton and Sam Mendes.

The 'second screen' is an integral part of life?

I happened to watch the excellent Concrete Circus on Monday whilst staying with my parents (It?s available via 4OD at the moment). It?s a great programme about five amazingly talented urban sports stars attempting to make their latest and greatest videos, and heavily references the audience they?ve attracted by sharing their athletecism on Youtube.

I?ve always been a fan of urban sports (skateboarding, urban trials, parkour and BMW in this example), and for once the description of ?jaw dropping action? is pretty true. But I was also a little surprised when I suddenly realised the difference apparent across the living room.

My dad was sat engrossed in the action in his chair, occasionally chatting to me about what was on screen. At the same time, I?m sat with my laptop, sharing some thoughts on Twitter and also picking up on each mention of the Youtube clips which made each athlete famous, and saving each one to watch later. It wasn?t that I was using my laptop whilst watching TV ? it was the fact that it was so natural that I didn?t even acknowledge it was out of the ordinary until my parents mentioned it after around 30 minutes or so.

Incidentally, having already seen videos of Danny McAskill and Kilian Martin, it was the parkour that amazed me the most, e.g.:

What I started wondering was whether it?s right to call the PC or iPad the ?second screen? as TV broadcasters and most media firms would have us believe. Or is it actually that the TV now occupies a similar spot in many ways to radio, in which we?ll have it on, but only pay attention when something grabs us. If I looked at my Twitter usage on a Sunday, I would guess that it builds for about 30 minutes before each MotoGP race, stops for 50 minutes while the race is happening, and then kicks off after the finish, as I mix the pre and post-race interviews and commentary with my thoughts and reactions, and those of my friends and peers.

And mobile is bringing this out with us, whether it?s the likes of QR Codes and Augmented Reality, or even something as simple as Google search. At the National Space Museum recently, I came across some information about astronomer Tyhco Brahe, and found the name familiar for some reason. Within seconds I?d realised it was from online comic Penny Arcade, and confirmed it via Wikipedia. And again,? whilst watching Exit Through The Gift Shop, I ended up researching elements of the programme for friends whilst watching it.

What?s interesting is that in all of these occasions, the computer/mobile usage was part prompted through my own desire for knowledge, and mainly prompted by the social aspects of being able to answer questions/provide context and sharing the knowledge I had access to. Plus there was a strong element of fact checking with a little error correction as well!

Given the value humans put of social activity as a species, it?s not only the interactive screen which should probably be denoted as the ?first screen?, but it?s becoming vital that whatever you?re doing to get the attention of people, whether via broadcast media, or in a museum, you need to be aware of how to accomodate the ?first screen?, or be able to successfully compete with it (a riskier strategy unless you can jump over buildings etc).
